Tvm: Young Indians (Yi), the youth wing of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) is organising a session on parenting, ‘Don't Sprint the Marathon’ at Hotel Classic Avenue in Thiruvananthapuram on August 27, 2011. The two hour session would be led by V Raghunathan, former professor at IIM Ahmedabad.

As ambitious parents, we often push our children to excel in ways that may help them achieve some early successes. Our obsessive rush to get our children off to a good start overlooks the fact that in life, as in a marathon, early lead hardly matters, but may leave our children lacking in many of the essential life skills that a normal childhood would teach them. Here is an opportunity to introspect and share experiences with a group of individuals going through a similar phase in life, under the guidance of an expert who has done extensive research on one of the subjects of utmost concern to each one of us - parenting.

V Raghunathan, renowned columnist and speaker, has authored - Don’t Sprint the Marathon and Games Indians Play. He is the CEO of GMR Varalakshmi Foundation of the GMR Group. The foundation won several awards such as the Orbis International Award, Helpage India Award, TERI Award and CNBC Award since he took over. He was MD, GMR Industries Ltd from Jan 2007 to Jun 2008; President of ING Vysya Bank from 2001 to 2004; and Professor of Finance & Accounting at the IIM, Ahmedabad from 1982 to 2001. He is an Adjunct Professor at the University of Bocconi, Milan, Italy since 1990.

According to Alex Augustine, Chair, Yi Trivandrum Chapter, “This flag ship programme is an initiative as part of Young Indians Trivandrum’s learning sessions. The program will be an interesting one for all young parents. As the session is on Parenting, we encourage couples to attend this session and as we have limited openings, please do get back to us at the earliest.”
