Trivandrum: Reiterating its pre-eminence as a tech-savvy tourism board in the country, Kerala has launched a host of path-breaking mobile -based services and IT-enabled projects to further enhance the travel experience of visitors to God’s Own Country. Tourism Minister Shri A P Anil Kumar launched the new set of products - Mobile website, WAP guide, Apps for Android & iOS and Bluetooth Kiosks, on July 10, 2012.

In his address, the Minister said, “Kerala is the first State in the country to adopt such mobile-based services for the benefit of the tourism industry. The new set of products will provide all necessary information to the tourists at their finger tips. This kind of technology will drive the growth of the industry and open new marketing avenues, apart from giving valuable information”.

These products will help the travellers to explore the destinations in the State without external guides. The WAP site will provide all facilities, currently available on the State Tourism website, also to the travellers connected through their smart phones. The newly launched WAP guide can replace the conventional tourist guides.

The two mobile apps cater to the need of iOS and Android, currently the most sought after mobile operating systems. The mobile apps offer extremely useful facilities. ‘What’s near me’ or ‘Around me’ is an example where the smart phone identifies the location and shows the tourists things around. Likewise, feature like ‘Places of Interest’ is an option that offers the tourists the interesting travel spots within Kerala. There is a tour planner too. There is also share option where the traveller can share pictures and messages with the dear ones in real time.

In another pioneering initiative, Kerala Tourism also launched Bluetooth Kiosks to provide real-time information to the tourists landing in Kerala. The Bluetooth Kiosks, to be set up at key places like the international airports in the State, will provide comprehensive information about Kerala and its tourism.

Suman Billa IAS, Secretary, Tourism; Rani George IAS, Director, Kerala Tourism and industry representatives E M Najeeb, Riyas Ahamed and Abraham George were also present on the occasion.
