Kollam: Amrita University has announced a pioneering online education initiative - Free All India Tuition Programme, for all college students. The online programme is supported by the Ministry of Human Resources Development’s (MHRD) National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NME-ICT) initiative. Initially, the pilot programme will be launched in Kerala and later, extended to other States.
In a release, Swami Amritaswarupananda Puri, VC, MA Math said, “The project will be launched on September 27, 2011 at Amritapuri, near Kollam, as part of the 58th birthday celebrations of Her Holiness Sri Mata Amritanandamayi. Amma, Chancellor of Amrita University, has been the inspiration and guide for various initiatives and programmes in distance education at Amrita, since many students can benefit from a few good teachers.”
An initial market survey conducted at colleges in Kerala found that students are highly interested in learning career opportunities in their respective fields and enhancing their soft skills. On that basis, Amrita University has decided to start off the free tuition programme covering career awareness. Subsequently, other subjects will be added.
Praveen Bist, Communications Manager, Amrita E-Learning Research Lab said, “The All India Tuition Programme will be available to all college students free of cost. The driving concept behind this initiative is to assist and empower needy students who are keen to learn”.
The free tuition programme will be transmitted through Amrita University’s award winning E-Learning platform, A-VIEW (Amrita Virtual Interactive E-Learning World), developed by Amrita E-Learning Research Lab. Amrita University will provide basic amenities such as webcam and audio equipments to the needy institutions which register early.
The free online tuition programme was inaugurated by the Union Minister for Science & Technology, Shri Vilasrao Deshmukh on September 27, 2011.
