Kozhikode: The Kerala Microsoft User Group (K-MUG) has received the Best Developer User Group in India award as part of the Microsoft Community Impact Awards 2010 which was announced by Microsoft today.

The Community IMPACT Awards is an initiative to recognize the great work done by members of the technology community in India to drive awareness, readiness and excitement about Microsoft Technologies among the broad developer community in India. Award selection criteria includes the various user group activities (such as technical sessions, trainings, developer conferences, etc.) conducted by the community in last year.

K-MUG community council members Sreejumon K P, Shoban Kumar, Binoy K, Dileep K and Anoop M will be receiving the award on behalf of the community. In a statement,  Sreejumon said, “K-MUG would like to thank you all the members and supporters for bringing this award to Kerala and expecting your support in future as well.”

User Groups are independently run volunteer entities that meet on a regular basis to discuss and share information on a variety of technical topics. Participation in user groups is an excellent and inexpensive way to receive technical readiness, and share thoughts and experiences with fellow professionals. These groups may be organized around audiences (Developers, IT Professionals, etc.) or technologies (SQL Server, Mobile, etc.).

The Kerala Microsoft User Group came into existence in 2008 at Kozhikode with the merger of all users groups in Kerala like the Trivandrum MUG (Started in 2001) and Calicut MUG.
