Kochi: Infosys co-founder Kris Gopalakrishnan has said that the speedy growth of Startup Village, India’s first telecom incubator, would greatly enhance Kerala’s investment and industrial environment. He was interacting with the media after announcing 20 outstanding start-ups here today.
Kris said the impressive performance of Startup Village within a short span of time had helped change the very perception about Kerala as these new ventures had turned out to be entrepreneurs and job-creators at the same time. Emphasizing that congenial atmosphere and sufficient infrastructure were integral to the growth of the start-up firms, he added that Startup Village was able to put them in place to incubate the new companies.
Products from Startup Village had already started gaining popularity outside the country, thus enhancing its image globally, he said and hoped that such products would soon be household names all over the world. Kris, who is also the chief mentor of Startup Village, gave away merit certificates to the 20 outstanding start-up ventures on the occasion.
Jai Menon, CEO, Bharati Group Global, who was also present on the occasion, said the growth of Startup Village was amazing.
The Startup Village campus already houses 68 incubated firms in an area of 5,000 sq ft, and a new 10,000 sq. ft. four-floor building, leased out by Kinfra can accommodate the operation of 250 to 300 companies. There are 359 applicants for incubation at the Village. Startup village which began functioning in April this year as a joint initiative between the Department of Science and Technology under the Government of India, Technopark Trivandrum and MobME Wireless.
