Kochi: Oracle India and Startup Village have joined hands to train more than 30,000 students and 200 teachers in over 100 engineering colleges in Kerala in Java programming language to sharpen their proficiency in Information Technology and enhance their employability. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to this effect will be signed on November 02, 2012 at Kochi.

Oracle will provide the curriculum, training of faculty and access to a secure online learning environment for students to develop programming and database design. It will help the participating students to develop technical, analytical and business skills that support their pursuit of professional careers and advanced study.

The MoU signing ceremony will be followed by a panel discussion on how to increase the IT competitiveness of the talent pool of the state. It will be chaired by CUSAT Vice-Chancellor Dr. Ramachandran Thekkedath, an accomplished scientist and technology expert. Mr. Mrinal Das, Campus Recruitment, Oracle India will also feature in the panel. Participating colleges will be able to avail the software grants and free training offered by Oracle as part of the Oracle Academy programme.

The Oracle Academy provides a complete portfolio of software, curriculum, hosted technology, faculty training, support, and certification resources to K-12, vocational, and higher education institutions for teaching use. Faculty can flexibly insert these resources into computer science and business programs, ensuring that students gain industry-relevant skills prior to entering the workforce. The Oracle Academy supports over 1.5 million students in 95 countries.

The Startup Village, located at Kinfra Hi-Tech Park, Kochi has been set up jointly by the National Science and Technology Entrepreneurship Development Board (NSTEDB) under the DST Government of India, and the Kerala Government-run Technopark, in collaboration with MobME wireless. It is being projected as the largest national attempt to scale up innovation in the country through incubators in collaboration with the private sector.
