Tvm: After much uncertainty about the ambitious Kochi Metro rail project, the official website of the project was launched by the Kerala Power Minister, Shri Aryadan Muhammed at Thiruvananthapuram on July 26, 2011. This marks a major milestone in the progress of this high priority project for Kerala.

The website (kochimetro.org) gives detailed information about the project and its implementation. Descriptions on the necessity of the metro rail project, the aim and target of the project, its detailed plan, technical data, major specialities, land needed for the project, details of land acquisition and rehabilitation facilities are given in the website. The government hopes that this will be a one-stop-shop for all the information related to the Kochi Metro project. The officials also hope that the site would help create awareness on the project among the people in Kochi.

The launch of the Kochi Metro website is part of the Chief Minister’s initiative to have transparency in government projects. Tenders, GO’s, circulars and other documents related to the project will also be uploaded in due course of time. The route map of the proposed metro rail line is also given.

A Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) has been formed for implementation of the metro rail project at Kochi. The name of the company is ‘Kochi Metro Rail Ltd.’ and the project is under active consideration of the Planning Board for equity participation by the Govt of India.
