Kochi: The crucial board meeting of the SmartCity Kochi project turned out to be a damp squid with the Tecom and Government reiterating their stands as both parties expressed their desire to go ahead with the project. Meanwhile, the next board meeting has been scheduled for June 28, 2010.

Fisheries Minister S Sarma who is also the Director of the SmartCity Kochi board along with Dr. Ajay Kumar, Principal Secretary (IT), GoK represented the Kerala Government while SmartCity CEO Abdul Rahman Fareed represented Tecom, the promoters of the SmartCity Kochi project.

Talking to the media after the Board Meeting, Abdul Rahman Fareed said that they are ready to go ahead with the project if there is an assurance on the freehold land as per the conditions laid down in the original framework agreement. He stressed the need to abide by the framework agreement while ruling out a legal course of action. He also added it’s sad that the focus of the project is now on the freehold land rather than on job creation.
