Final decision on SmartCity soon: Minister

E-mail

New Delhi: Kerala Fisheries Minister S Sarma and also chairman of SmartCity Kochi project, has issued a virtual ultimatum to Tecom, the promoters of the project, saying the State will decide on the fate of the project within one month.

Talking to the media in New Delhi on Friday, Sarma said that there were many takers for the project, if Tecom wound up the project. “Kerala Government was not ready to make any changes in the agreement signed with Tecom”, he added.

The State Cabinet had in December last year, decided to hold another round of talks with Tecom before handing over the project to a new promoter but the government has not made any move in this direction. Meanwhile SmartCity Dubai authorities have also responded saying that they have not received any official communication from Kerala Government yet.

The future of IT in Kerala hinges on SmartCity project. It will send the right message to the people of Kerala and to the world. It is a question of sustaining the momentum created by Technopark. Everyone should approach the issues with a positive mind... Let us make it happen..
