Talks 'once more' with Tecom: CM

E-mail

Tvm: Chief Minister Shri V S Achuthanandan said here on Wednesday that the Kerala government would soon hold direct talks 'for one more time' with Tecom investments, the Dubai based promoters of the proposed SmartCity project in Kochi, on contentious issues.

Briefing reporters after the weekly Cabinet meeting, the CM said the Tecom authorities would be coming to the State for the discussions. The discussions would be centred on what they thought about the current impasse and how they proposed to proceed with the project. But he insisted that the financial crisis in Dubai had nothing to do with the lack of progress in the SmartCity IT park project.

He also said several groups including an MNC IT major from the US, have expressed interest to take up the project.

Earlier in the week, the state government had made it clear that Tecom would not be given any right to sell land acquired for the project and that the government would have to think of other ways of implementing it if the promoters cannot agree to the government stand.
