Tvm: Aravind M, a nineth standard student from the Kendriya Vidyalaya in Pattom, Thiruvananthapuram has won the ‘How technology can help reduce disaster’ competition conducted by the Technopark, Trivandrum based Schogini Systems during the Surakshayanam 2012 exhibition earlier this month. Surakshayanam was an International Workshop & Exhibition, on disaster risk reduction and contingency planning organised by the Department of Revenue & Disaster Management, Government of Kerala.
Aravind was awarded a Certificate of Achievement and the Toy of The Year Finalist board game, The Laser Game: KHET 2.0 in a private ceremony hosted by Gayatri Ajith, CEO of Schogini Systems, at their office in Technopark on March 28, 2012. The competition saw a vibrant crowd with out-of-the-box ideas to prevent or reduce the impact of disasters and Aravind’s entry was the best amongst 71 entries.
Some of his ideas where newer and advanced technologies can be utilised for disaster management include access to Satellite navigation systems for everyone, applications for Android and IOS such as sensors which can sense the minute vibrations on the Earth’s crest (can be utilised for earthquake detection) and installation of cameras and sensors to detect any slight change in the surroundings which can warn people.
Schogini Systems was probably the only company from Technopark to participate in Surakshayanam 2012. The company displayed the roles it can play in the prevention, preparation, mobilisation and rehabilitation phases of a disaster. They demonstrated Augmented Reality Siren (ARS), an intelligent wireless siren system, the Altruicity app (popular in US) and the Emergency app (popular in UK) at the exhibition.
