Tvm: Visionics India, one of the first companies to start operations in Technopark, Trivandrum recently celebrated its 17th anniversary of its operations in India. Visionics India is a joint venture company between Norlinvest of Sweden and Alpha-Imager, Bangalore and has the experience of developing Electronic Design Automation (EDA) packages for more than 25 years. EDWinXP (PCB Designing and SPICE based software) is the main product of Visionics.
Visionics India started their operations in Periyar building in the Technopark campus on February 15, 1995. With its Principal office at Stockholm, Sweden, the company has its development centres in Russia, Estonia and Japan. The Research & Development, Marketing & Sales for Asia-Pacific region and technical support & training to worldwide customers are provided from the Trivandrum centre. Apart from EDWinXP, the other products of Visionics are DocOne, SIMWinXP and Macrosim.
Looking back, M Thiyagarajan, MD, Visionics India says, “We were one of the early companies to move into Technopark and the infrastructure and facilities were limited then. It was Leif Norlin, our Chairman who took the bold initiative to come to India at a time when we were little known for development. As Technopark grew in size, we had more facilities but also had to pay a price with escalating rental, management, employee salaries, etc. making it difficult for smaller companies and Visionics was no exception. However we survived and continued to develop EDWin from 16 bit version to 32 bit version to 2000 to XP and so on. We have shown that we can develop world class software in India.”
“I should also mention Roman Knoll, our R&D Manager who had braved every visit to India on harthal days and lived on ‘French Fries’! He guided young talents to implement variety of functionality in EDWin. Today, we have a large installed base worldwide and in India too, EDWin is the preferred Electronics Design Software for Technical Education”, adds Thiyagarajan.
Visionics has companies like Volvo, Ericsson, Bofors, GE, FCC (Federal Communications Commission), USA and Universities in Sweden, UK, USA, Malaysia, Columbia and several Engineering Colleges in Kerala and other States in its customer list.
