State hit by hartal but not IT

Tvm/Kochi: The state sponsored hartal has brought life to a standstill in Kerala but one industry that refuses to be bogged down is IT. It’s a normal working day for the IT industry in Kerala with all the IT Parks working as usual.

The Technopark and Infopark authorities have made arrangements for transporting their employees by Police protected convoy services in Trivandrum and Kochi. With the entire public transport system off the roads, it would have been a nightmare for the techies to reach their office on time but for the convoys.

“We had two sets of buses starting from different points in the city for our employees. Many employees also joined the convoy with their private vehicles as they feel safer”, said the HR Manager of one of the leading companies in Technopark. “Today, employees without bus passes, those who normally don’t avail company transport, can do so”, he added.

Many ITeS (BPO) companies had an Emergency Response Team in place with key resources staying back in the office overnight to meet any eventuality. But whatever said and done, these frequent state sponsored hartals are bound to hit the Brand Kerala. This is the 19th statewide shutdown in Kerala since this LDF Government came into power in 2006.
