Tvm: As part of implementing ICT enabled education and e-governance within the Education Department, the IT@School project will impart ICT Training to around 2 lakh personnel in Kerala this year.
According to K Anvar Sadath, Executive Director, IT@Kerala, this will be a massive exercise involving 17 types of training programmes targeting a wide spectrum of personnel from the Education Department. Lower Primary, Upper Primary, High School , Higher Secondary teachers, Head Masters, Principals, Deputy Directors, District Education Officer & Assistant Education Officers, Ministerial Staff within the department and Students will be part of this target group. Category wise Teachers like Visually Challenged, Drawing, Music & Physical Education Teachers, Science, Maths, Language & Social Science teachers will also be included for the training.
While the modules are different for each training programme, the basic ICT and Internet skills are common. The content would include exclusive Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) required for their domain / subject.
IT @School has equipped 2,800 School IT Co-ordinators and an equal number of Joint School IT Co-ordinators in the schools in Kerala under the Education Department. “Similarly we’ll build School Student IT Co-ordinators (SSITCs) in all schools with a minimum of 10 per school and thus we’ll have a network of around 28,000 SSITCs this year”, he added. The process of training these SSITCs has already started and they will also be equipped to handle hardware issues to give free software installation support apart from Graphic Design, Hardware Maintenance, New Media etc.
The space for such a massive training exercise is not an issue as teachers coming for the training will bring their Laptops from schools and any place with wi-fi can be converted to a Computer Lab, in addition to a school’s existing Computer Lab.
