Kozhikode: After Thrissur and Palakkad, it’s now the turn of Kozhikode to introduce the online sand distribution system. The Nirman online sand distribution system was inaugurated by the State Industries Minister Shri Elamaram Kareem on July 18, 2010. With the issuance of sand tokens going online, people won’t have to stand in long queues as they can apply online once the documents are authenticated by the local governing bodies.
Speaking at the function, the Minister said that Nirman was a creative and scientific system through which everyone could get sand in a reasonable manner as it can put an end to black marketing of sand.
One Akshaya centre in every panchayat has been converted to a Nirman online centre, besides two each in municipalities and three in the Corporation making up a total of 85 centres. The payment is done at a bank branch near the pass distribution centre. The pass is issued from any of the 10 pass distribution centres on production of the token and the counterfoil of cash payment. The pass clearly specifies the date, time and waterfront from where the consumer can collect sand, besides the route the lorry should take to the destination.
According to Dr. P B Salim IAS, District Collector, the software developed by the National Informatics Centre, Kozhikode, was fool proof and that no corruption was possible as the process was done online. The token and the pass were completely computer generated and hence no fudging was possible. He said the next phase will be to unify the rate of sand all over the district.

I am working in Indian Air Force, presently posted to 2 (A) Air Sqn (Tech) NCC in Secunderabad. I am constructing my house in Malayamma , Chathamangalam Panchayat. I took House Building loan from AFGIS, and construction of house is in progress. Scarcity of river sand effects the work.
As I am working away from my home town in defence service, I would like to request you that my application may be considered as special case and forward a copy of application for river sand for defence personnel if any.
