Tvm: This New Year day would witness the rise of IT@School ViCTERS, the educational channel of Government of Kerala, to newer heights with the help of Video Streaming technology, which would enable students, teachers and general public to watch the channel through Internet from any part of the world.

Starting January 01, 2011, ViCTERS would be available ‘Live’ on the channel’s website and entire programmes telecast on the channel from 6am to 11pm could be viewed. This revolutionary upgradation of the channel would benefit lakhs of students in the State as well as those in Lakswadeep and Gulf region who studies the State syllabus. Ever since the launch of the channel in August 2006, it’s availability through Internet was a dream cherished by Keralites around the globe and the new mode would enable an individual from any part of the world to watch and learn through ViCTERS.

Live streaming of the channel through internet would also ensure that the students need not depend on a Television or Cable / DTH connection to watch ViCTERS. Since all the schools in the state are equipped with broadband internet connectivity, the students can view ViCTERS using a computer or a laptop in their classrooms or computer labs. Students can also pick their favourite programmes of the week since the programme schedule is published in the website a week in advance.

In a release K Anvar Sadath, Executive Director, IT@School & ViCTERS said, “Apart from the live viewing of ViCTERS using the new technology, students would also be able to select their specific choice of programmes through facilities like ‘Video on Demand’ which is proposed to be implemented this year itself. It is also proposed to air specific educational contents including latest Information Technology trends details which are produced in English through ViCTERS channel, a process which would target the national audience that would ultimately benefit the entire nation”.

ViCTERS (Virtual Classroom Technology on Edusat for Rural Schools) is the only channel in Kerala to air specific curriculum based programmes; International programmes on Science and Technology prepared by Deutsche Welle, the German broadcaster and BBC; and Classic Indian Films produced by NFDC.
