Tvm: Akshaya eKendras across the state will embark on a massive enrolment of APL families for the Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme (CHIS) from August 5 to 9, 2010. The enrolment facility will be available at over 2000 Akshaya centres across Kerala. This exercise is part of the Kerala Government’s initiative to widen the Union Government’s health insurance scheme, Rashtriya Swastya Bima Yojana (RSBY) to Above Poverty Line (APL) families as well.
The new scheme named RSBY - Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme (CHIS) is the flagship scheme of Comprehensive Health Insurance Agency of Kerala (CHIAK), the nodal agency of Government of Kerala. The RSBY-CHIS aims to cover 35 lakh BPL families in the unorganised sector in three phases. The third phase is under preparation which will include the families left out in first and second phases. The Government aims to carry forward this momentum through CHIS.
Talking to Kerala IT News, an Akshaya District Coordination said, "We crossed 1,000 registrations within one hour of opening. Akshaya entrepreneurs are prepared for this massive exercise". This is yet another effort of Akshaya to bring the services of the Government to the citizens. A family can register for the scheme in the nearest Akshaya centre across Kerala. On an average, there are two Akshaya Kendras in each panchayat.
Families can enrol by paying Rs.494 which includes the premium of Rs.464 and a registration fee of Rs.30. After collecting the photo and the finger print of each family member, a smart card will be provided. The head of the family or any responsible member can enrol in this scheme by providing the description of family, house, etc.
