Tvm: The Kerala Chief Minister’s Office today became the first corporate user of the ePost facility offered by India Post (Department of Posts), Government of India. With the introduction of this service, all acknowledgements of the petitions received at the CM’s Office will be sent automatically by ePost.
The petitioner would receive a print out of the email, delivered by the local postman, on the second day. Chief Minister Shri V S Achuthanandan inaugurated the ePost facility which has been launched by the Kerala Government in association with India Post and National Informatics Centre (NIC).
Briefing the media, Dr. Ajay Kumar, Principal Secretary (IT), GoK said, “The database at the CM’s Office is being linked to the ePost database and hence there is no addition work resulting in huge saving of manpower while making the acknowledgement delivery faster.” He also added that this is a novel initiative of integrating an Email Home Delivery application and this would be expanded in phases to cover the other ministers also.
Talking to Kerala IT News, an official of NIC said that 23,759 acknowledgments have been sent successfully by ePost since January 2010 which was the trial period.
ePost was introduced by India Post during 2002-4 on an experimental basis and is now being widely used by individuals. Through ePOST, customers can send their messages to any address in India with a combination of electronic transmission and physical delivery through a network of more than 1,55,000 Post Offices. ePOST sends messages as a soft copy through internet and at the destination it will be delivered to the addressee in the form of hard copy. But this is the first time that a corporate module was developed by India Post. The open source software has been developed by NIC and Red Hat.
